Qualifications within this field are not restricted MS & Cisco themselves. Several well regarded neutral organisations are today presenting progressively more relevant and essential qualifications. The importance of understanding converging technologies and inter connectivity in networks has become firmly accepted. Networking is in fact going through some major paradigm shifts at the moment; thoughts generally are leaning toward greener IT, and both processing-power & data-storage are shifting towards Cloud computing. From the financial point of view, 'greener' technology must be designed to be more cost-effective, in addition to being kinder towards the planet. Computers produce much less heat (and so need less cooling) when they have lower powered processors. Companies with substantial networks of computers can bring down their energy costs substantially with greener and more efficient computer systems.

The age-old way of teaching, involving piles of reference textbooks, is often a huge slog for most of us. If you're nodding as you read this, dig around for more practical courses which have a majority of interactive, multimedia parts. Research into the way we learn shows that we remember much more when we use all our senses, and we get physically involved with the study process.

Every program under consideration has to build towards a properly recognised accreditation at the end - not some little 'in-house' printed certificate to hang in your hallway. From the viewpoint of an employer, only top businesses like Microsoft, Adobe, CompTIA or Cisco (for example) provide enough commercial weight. Anything less won't make the grade.
